zurück in heidelberg!

just came back home... another almost 24 hours of travel, with a final pull-the-30kg-luggage-up-the-hill to reach my appartement... sorry for not updating too regularly recently, but there was no free wifi and they didn't like my credit card :-( I already told about the disastrous 1.5k sideevent and the more successful satellites. indeed I managed to win another one so I would have been able to play the other 1.5k in monday but i wisely decided to split my winnings to go shopping and play two deepsack tornaments (160$ each) at Caesars palace. first of all, shopping was amazing: Vegas has at least two outlet centers with 130+ shops each where you can get almost every brand for real cheap... so I brought back a thrid pair of sunglasses and about 5 extra kilos of shirts and stuff. however, next time I have to do something about my tremendous taxi bill......... the deepstack were not too successfull but loads of fun. second day there was an old hippie at the table (almost identical to the dude from big lebowski), telling real trash stories.. later he was joined by a guy in his earlie thirties, looking realy sporty and fit and well tanned.. the two of them were entertraining the whole table. the younger guy then started to ask into the table who would be in for a bet "who has the best scar" and put a 100$ bill on the table - of course the hippie guy did not consider long and put another 100. the rest of us should then vote and the dealer should count who would win. the two negotiated who would start to show off and finally the younger guy reached under the table ... and put a leg prostethics on the top of the table!! obviously he won, the hippie guy surrendered but neverteless dropped his pants (in the middle of the poker room!) to show a real nasty scar spanning his whole leg. the younger guy didn't take his 100 and told him, no problem, apparently you don't know who I am... and told an een more amazing story: apparently, he's semi professional poker player and played the 10k main event last year. there, one guy noticed his handicap and said that he was really impressed how well he can walk with his leg and stuff. he then asked if he could also run on that leg. then, they came up
with this sick bet: they would do a 100 meter sprint against each others - the guy with re prosthetics would givete other one 30 meters advantage. winner takes 10000$. there were other people betting on this, total amount was more than 50k... needless to say the handicapped guy won easily and took the money.. it turned out that he's US champion and Paralympics world record holder over 100 meters (10.21s!!). sick

there are lots of other things to mention, for example, beer pong, and another sick 5000$ tattoo bet involving one of our players.. but enough for the moment ;) thanks a lot to pokeridol for giving me the chance to swim with the big fish.. i learned a lot, enjoyed even more and for sure will be back to do some better! it's possible, dieter had one amazingly deep run into the 1k event (finishing 20th out of 3-4k players), and some of the others cashed nice amounts too. but first, there's wsop Europe in london, and "Malta madness" (guess where).

but next, football! und deutsche Übersetzung folgt :)

Busted

1500$ event didn't go too well... chipcount constantly went down, didn't get any hand for the first two hours and got busted after 4 hours with pocket tens facing QJ... well. At least "ElkY" went out before me one table further :) Yesterday i managed to cash 1k in one of the satellites which kind of cheered me up.. Let's see, if i manage to cash anything today i might play tomorrows 1500 to do better (which should not be too hard).
Watched the German match with the others this morning at hofbrauhaus,7 a.m. And lots of beer and German supporters... Surreal :) nice performance by the german team however. Let's see how far they go

Viva Las Vegas

After 24 hours trip we landed in Vegas yesterday... first flight to Chicago was okay and on time, we just landed before a huge thunderstorm kept us waiting in the plane for 1.5 hours and prevented any flights from leaving.. we were lucky to get a connection flight to Vegas, alternative would have been to go to a hotel 40 miles away (no shuttle pickup) / sleep at the airport and take a flight to Vegas via San Francisco (!) the next day. However it worked out and we got our connection the same day, arriving at Vegas only 5 hours late, 2 a.m. local time. Nice thing was, our hotel room was gone, so we were upgraded to a penthouse free of charge. Jaccuzzi included :) Didn't sleep well, though ... today we had to change back for our normal rooms and went to WSOP to buy-in. Didn't expect it to be so difficult to withdraw more than 300$ per day from the cash machine, so to get the 1500 was a bit tricky... in the end it worked, so I will play event number 45!!!

Will try to catch some sleep now as I'm really tired, so cross fingers tomorrow from 12.00 ... should be something like 21.00 eastern time :-)

jetzt gehts los!

After stopping over at my parents' place close to Frankfurt, I'm not getting ready to go to the airport ... flight is departing at 14.25. Let's hope everything will be smooth ... changing planes at Chicago we should arrive at Vegas 21.xx local time. Enough time to still get a drink and see what the next days bring!

Three days to go ..

As you probably know I'm heading to Vegas on Wednesday 23rd to play some poker. I was lucky enough to qualify for this during Pokeridol German Open in Munich this May - they pay flight and hotel and all I have to do is blast a nice amount of cash I get on top. Thanks for that! In this blog I will keep you updated on my trip, which events I'm going to play and everything else I experience during my first time in Vegas (and the states).
As for now I still have to organize some things, pack my luggage, watch "the hangover" and find a way to watch the last German match (of the group phase...) while we're up in the air ... so stay tuned!
